Last week, we at Kolos Lifting & Inspection AS visited our partner Heila Cranes to carry out the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) on the latest crane that has been built—an HR650 equipped with 1500 m wire and Active Heave Compensation (AHC).
The FAT is a crucial part of the quality assurance process and an important step before the crane is shipped for installation and operation.

What is an FAT, and why is it so important?

A factory acceptance test is performed at the manufacturer to ensure that the crane meets all design requirements, performance criteria, and safety standards before leaving the factory. This includes:

• Visual inspection of the structure and components
• Functional tests of lifting, slewing, control systems, and operational functions
• Load testing to verify capacity and safety
• Testing of safety systems such as emergency stops, limit switches, and overload protection
• Review of all documentation, including manuals and test protocols

For us at Kolos, the FAT allows us to verify the quality of the delivery, identify any adjustments early, and ensure a safe and efficient installation phase for the customer.
